I am an alumnus of this school. It's in an excellent part of town -- quiet, residential, child-friendly -- and has a storied history. The building is suited perfectly for elementary education and its park area is important for the community. How about we close one of the thousands ofnbanks or nail salons in Long Beach, instead of a school?

Long Beach is a community and the base of every great community are the schools within. East is the very best of the best. The love and support of the teachers nourishes the students in a way that high tech gadgets and beautiful new buildings could never. Not only would the students and families of East suffer, but all the surrounding businesses and homes. One of my favorite things about Long Beach is when a group of kids are on their bikes taking up the whole road. That’s a real community. Safe and nurturing where kids can be kids. Don’t take away a pillar of the community and leave a gaping hole in the East side of Long Beach that can never be filled.

Closing the East Elementary school will have a profound negative impact on our children, their families, the staff and the community as a whole. Many parents like myself chose this school due to its smaller size and proximity. Closing the school will be disruptive to hundreds of children and people as well as result in over crowding of the other schools. Please do the right thing for our kids.

Decisions like these are why so many Long Islanders move away. Closing a school like this hurts the students & community.

I attended summer camp here and later was a counselor. I went to lots of Boy Scout meetings w my family plus my mom, uncles, sister and brother all attended East w so many fond memories. Before the playground was locked we used to play there too. No need for shutting down a beautiful piece of history. Besides where are all of the kids that move into the new buildings going to go to school??

East school hold so many memories and a special place in our hearts. Not only is it a beautiful historic landmark, but it is the first place so many of our Long Beach youth play and meet their friends after school or even before they start school. Personally, I loved living around the corner from the school and how our twins could walk to the gifted program on Wednesdays from our home. It would be a great loss for the city of Long Beach if this is taken down.

It’s a shame closing East school is even a thought. Both my children attend East school and can’t imagine them going anywhere else. I myself am born and raised in Long Beach and attended West and graduated from lbhs. If East school were to close then all the students and faculty would have to be relocated. That would make for larger classrooms in the remaining elementary schools, which are already overcrowded. How about you limit the amount in the other 3 schools and level the attendance out so East schools enrollment matches the rest. East school was built in 1926 and throughout its almost 100 years of service its managed to stay open. Its absolutely ridiculous to even think about closing it down. There are no real reasons to shut the school down. Our kids and all of East schools faculty and maintenance staff do not deserve the school closure, especially due to the unfortunate mismanagement by city officials in recent years. Please do not close this beautiful school that’s been serving our great community for nearly 100 years.

Save East School! A lot of students are going to be affected by the board’s decision of closing it. When Super Storm Sandy hit Long Island both of my kiddos were welcome at East School. Save East School!
