6 MONTHS IS NOT ENOUGH
Dear All. Thank you for the signatures. Please help us by continuing to promote this petition, as it is important to demonstrate that none of us would ever be satisfied with a sentence of 6 months in county jail—should we or our loved ones be killed crossing the street in a crosswalk. By law, pedestrians have the absolute right-of-way; and motorists are required to yield to pedestrians. For the charge of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, the legislature has deemed the violation of law to be a 2-year minimum and 6-year maximum incarceration. 6 months is not enough. Our justice system should uphold the very laws that the People created.
Pedestrian Deaths. Pedestrian deaths are increasing faster than all other traffic fatalities. From 2019 to 2022, the deaths of people walking increased to 19% within those three years. Data on pedestrian traffic fatalities can be viewed on the Governors Highway Safety Association website.
