This is such a sad demonstration on failure of our system, I have known this family for many years, grandmother, father and 2 young boys , super intelligent, Wonderful children, I knew of some of the emotional trauma thru grandmother. When the unthinkable happened we were shocked, as a nurse I realize psychological and emotional problems can be difficult to fully understand, what I can't understand is how a young man can be condemned to prison when it is obvious he had emotional problems. As well he committed this when only 16 how then is he being treated as an adult. Please consider this young man's emotional and psychological state in weighing your final decisions.
The system repeatedly fails the most vulnerable. Mental health is so often stigmatized, but in reality it is just can important as physical health. If the goal of the criminal justice system is really rehabilitation and not just punishment then in this situation the mental health of the defendant but be taken into account and he must get the help he needs. Those with mental disorders suffer greatly in prisons.
Please give Daniel the mental health care he needs. It is the just & humane thing to do. The system had failed this young man & his family. Please do the right thing & put him in a facility where he can get the help he needs!
I care about this issue because I am one of the people that has taught and went through every hoop possible to get my child back and did everything under the sun I improved my life and I still had right terminated on my youngest daughter there is a lot to my story and they didnt care to see it not did they want to see my improvement they over looked a lot and if we are fighting we should have the chance to prove that and not be over looked out chances should matter if we are fighting to improve and to prove that we matter to
It’s in the constitution that it is our given rights to raise our children how we see fit and no government should be involved by forcing the policy and their own opinions. When a child can safely return home or be I. Their parents lives it’s a bond like no other and this unnecessary trauma to these children and parents should be stoped. The government will pay someone to adopt these kids but not put the resources into the parents having stable housing and permanent homes. They instead take the children and rip them away from all willing family members who want to adopt them and put them with strangers who receive a check and a food card and are already wealthy!!! This is so wrong I hope it stops or someone will stand up for families in the court system most of these are human beings making mistakes and the court system is handing out the death sentence by taking children from their parents.
This is tragic. Adoptees are traumatized enough, (I spent 10 years writing a memoir in which I wrestled with my own adoptive trauma) without the state worsening their trauma by denying them access to their own records.
