In a personal and painful experience, my children were taken from my care by Child Protective Services. These are not isolated incidences; they reflect a heartbreaking reality many families across America face. Often termed legal kidnapping, an alarming number of children are removed from their homes based on unsubstantiated allegations or cases that could have been easily rectified with family support services.

According to a study published by the National Coalition for Child Protection Reform, over six million children were involved in CPS investigations, and nearly 270,000 children were placed in foster care in 2012. This is not to undermine the necessity of such agencies in cases of genuine abuse or neglect, but there's a dire necessity to reevaluate their approach and to ensure just actions.

We call on lawmakers and social service leaders to abolish the current system of Child Protective Services and replace it with a more family-oriented, supportive system that truly values the welfare of children above all else. We need a system where investigations are absolutely necessary and not hastily carried out, where families are bolstered rather than broken.
