Victories in Cancer

At some point, cancer will touch our lives in one way or another. Whether it’s your family member, your friend, or you yourself, cancer will impact your life. We all need to come together to fight this disease by supporting the medical and public health research that brings us scientific breakthroughs. We are starting to see better treatments reach patients. We can’t stop the momentum now. Our lives depend on it.

Having lost a son at age 20 to a rare form of cancer in 1997, the research done in the ensuing years has meant others do not succumb to this awful disease. Please, please do not cut cancer research funding.

I was diagnosed with Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer in 2013. My participation in two phase 1 immunotherapy trials has not only kept me alive with no evidence of disease, it has enabled me to thrive and encourage other newly diagnosed patients that their diagnosis is not a death sentence, but something that they can beat.

As someone who is currently fighting cancer, please do not cut funding for research or trials. We need more research so we can finally abolish this horrible disease.

I have stage 4 breast cancer and my hope for survival was knowing that amazing research and trials were going on and I just needed to hang on until a cure or better drug came out. My hope has been completely dashed.

As someone who lost two sisters to cancer. One at 36 years old. I can't tell you how important it is to find a cure. The pain they suffered was unimaginable. They cried out with no relief available. Even the strongest medication failed to ease their suffering. My baby sister tried so hard. She enrolled in clinical trials. The pain and treatment she endured, is beyond anything someone should suffer. She wanted to live. She had a daughter in high-school. She was her only support. Her other parent, never assisted in raising her. Her loss is profoundly felt by so many people. My older sister, suffered as well. Her insurance wasn't very good. She endured pain beyond imagination. Her one wish, was that I not forget her. It broke my heart.
