As a former collegiate equestrian student-athlete turned college recruiting consultant, I’ve seen firsthand how impactful these programs are—both during college and long after graduation. Over the past few years, interest in collegiate equestrian has exploded, with families now reaching out as early as middle school to understand pathways to ride at the next level.
Equestrian programs consistently produce student-athletes with some of the highest team GPAs on campus and foster discipline, leadership, time management, and academic excellence. Reinstating the UC Davis equestrian team matters not only to UC Davis, but to the sport of equestrian as a whole and to the countless young women who look to programs like this as a pathway to opportunity, growth, and leadership.
I have been job searching for over a year only to be denied, ghosted, or even interviewed while no intention to hire was had. I am running out of money and will soon default on loans, won't be able to afford food, etc. I am tired, stressed, afraid, etc. I need meds, mental healthcare, and so much more and cannot afford any of it due to ghost jobs. I have 12 years of experience in the field I am looking for, and will not believe that I do not qualify for entry level positions. Change needs to happen.
As someone currently fostering a pure breed puppy for my local shelter that was about to be euthanized because his original owner did him wrong, I can attest that we absolutely do not need another irresponsible breeder and anyone who breeds multiple breeds and sells them in a pet store is the definition of an irresponsible breeder!
