The Issue

Restore Palm Beach International Airport: Give Palm Beach County Residents a Voice!

Palm Beach International Airport belongs to the public. It serves our residents, our businesses, our visitors, and our local economy. It should not be used as a political monument to a sitting president.

Florida’s Legislature took authority over airport naming away from local government and mandated that our airport be renamed after Donald Trump. That decision committed millions of dollars to political rebranding without giving Palm Beach County residents a direct vote on whether they wanted it.

Public Money, Private Interests: Who Really Benefits?

The renaming raises another serious concern that taxpayers deserve to know about.

A Trump-affiliated company holds trademark rights to the airport’s new name. Under the licensing agreement approved by Palm Beach County, that company retains certain controls over how the airport’s name and branding can be used commercially.

Although the agreement prohibits Trump and his affiliated companies from collecting revenue from airport-branded merchandise sold at the airport, it does not impose the same restrictions on merchandise sold elsewhere or expressly prohibit all potential commercial licensing arrangements.

That means private financial benefits remain possible, even as public funds are being spent on the airport’s rebranding.

Why should a publicly owned airport carry a private company’s trademark, with potential commercial benefits for that company, while taxpayers bear the costs?

Palm Beach County residents deserve complete transparency about who controls the name, who could profit from it, and whether public resources are being used to enhance private commercial interests.

Our Votes and Our Voices Matter

The November 2026 election demonstrated a significant shift in Palm Beach County’s political representation. One of the legislators instrumental in the renaming lost her seat. Our newly elected representatives should recognize that voters deserve an opportunity to revisit this decision.

At a time when federal transportation leadership faces serious questions about staffing, safety oversight, infrastructure priorities, and the consequences of DOGE-driven government restructuring, spending millions to put a politician’s name on an airport reflects questionable priorities.

This is not about denying anyone’s right to support Donald Trump. It is about whether public infrastructure should serve the community or function as political branding.

We are taxpayers. We are residents. We deserve accountable government and a meaningful voice in the identity of our public institutions.

We are calling on the Palm Beach County Commission and Florida Legislature to begin the lawful process of restoring the name Palm Beach International Airport.

Our airport should represent Palm Beach County, not a political personality.
