I care about this issue because it’s hard when you got choose between eating or paying your power this shouldn’t have to come to this as a person not being able to work my husband has to work just to keep our home running and little money left over no one should never have to do without everything going up food Powerbill how are people going to make it living on prayers only in Kentucky
I live alone. I’m on disability. I don’t have hardly anything on through the day at all. I use 1 light at night for a couple of hours. This is ridiculous the price of electricity these days. How is a person suppose to pay these prices and suppose to live. Because it’s getting to the point can’t even put food into the house because the electric bill is getting so high. This is ridiculous!!!
I am a single man that lives alone, I heat with gas and usually hang my laundry out on the line to dry to keep from using the dryer, my hot water heater is turned down to 120, and the only light I have on at night is the glow from the TV, and my electric bill is still almost $300 WTH?? I know that others have much bigger bills than me, but I'm doing everything I can short of living off the grid. I am disabled and on a limited income, so I for one can't continue to live like this, but what choice do I have.
I live alone, and heat with gas, I only have the TV on after dark, wash clothes once a week, don't use the oven but maybe two to three times a month, my hot water tank is turned down to 120 degrees. My bill is running over $ 300 a month. I know that don't seem like a lot but for the electric I use, that's a lot. I'm on a fixed income, and i cant afford this. Im going without food and the essentials to get by on just to pay my bills, and the HIGH electric bill just adds to the struggle. I don't know what else I can do.
Very little difference in usage and my electric bill went from $300 in February to $400 on my March bill. My bills used to be consistently under $250 all last year. I'm sick of being robbed making it even harder to feed my family on a tight budget. I had to push back a vet appointment my cat desperately needs too.
My bank called and questioned my last automatic withdrawal for my electric bill cause it was so high!!! My bank in Louisville! That’s crazy. Here in Blaine we are the first to lose electric and often the last to have it restored. I don’t understand how these execs are making as much money as they are while a coop (technically owned by all the members!) offers so little to its customers in terms of weatherproofing and energy conservation assistance. I went to their meeting in 2024 just to see what it was and got a free umbrella-what a dumb give away! Why not a free LED bulb or something that would help energy efficiency. The problem is that this set up of GRECC is not sustainable and coal is not the answer. The short term thinking on the part of both the eastern Ky Coop and grecc is appalling. Seems they just wanna bleed the coop dry. I’d encourage all of us to look into solar both connected to the grid and not. Battery storage continues to improve despite what you read in the GRECC magazine/lobbying booklet.
My family lives in Olive Hill (Formerly Soldier) in a small home that we cool by opening the windows. We don’t have central or anything like that. We flip off all the lights at night, we use a kerosene heater when it gets chilly. We don’t even sleep with a tv on, yet our electric bill is $400+ a month. I am currently in between jobs. LIHEAP only covers about $150 every now and then, which helps, but with these rising costs and the job market being slightly unkind (and unemployment paying absolute crap), it feels like paying a second rent check just to keep the lights on. The bullying and fees need to stop. My family can’t take this much longer. It shouldn’t cost more than my house payment monthly to have lights on and internet, which is our only source of income.
$400+ electric bills while on a fixed income even more so after losing my wife and having less income. A $300 electric bill one month a $400+ the next when we wasn't even home. We spent 2 months in the hospital and didn't use any electric for those 2 months but get charged over $600 in total for them. Make it make sense. They are stealing from us
