It's bad enough to drive down sunset and smell that waste plant. To know that it is coming to the dalewood community is a hard pill to swallow. It's bad enough that sometimes we get the smell of manure from the farms, but now with the westernly winds, those of us in the community will be getting that waste smell. I see it as a concern to the residents in the area, the school just down the road, and the nature lovers who enjoy camping and walking the nature trails in the area... MOVE IT ELSEWHERE!!!
I'm just recently aware that there is a sewage treatment plant planned for on Dalewood Rd. Living in the Dalewood Subdivision and with the westerly winds, I'm concerned there needs to be the highest responsibility to control odours and noise.
First , I live a quarter mile down the road a knew nothing about this proposal , why would we put a waste material plant across from a conservation campground , also 500 m from 2 public schools it appears that city council has keep this proposal very quiet . We need to have a meeting where we are all informed .
The Dalewood conservation area and Waterworks Park are natural havens in an otherwise very industrial city. PLEASE DON’T use the proposed land for this facility - the development and construction period alone will harm local wildlife, ecology, and enjoyability in these areas. There has to be a better alternative!
We moved to northeast St Thomas from London in August 2023 while our family was undergoing enormous stress and upheaval. I was so happy to discover Waterworks Park. It became part of my daily therapy to walk the dog at the park. I can honestly say that beautiful place saved me. It is beyond comprehension that you would build a sewage plant right next door to that haven. The patients that may live out the rest of their lives at the new hospice up the hill deserve to live their days in peace and harmony with their surroundings, not smelling sewage! The families that come to Dalewood Conservation Area to enjoy their much-anticipated summer camping deserve fresh, clean air. The school children running at recess and participating in outdoor sports deserve a healthy environment! And the families in the entire northeast quadrant of the city deserve to enjoy their yards, their properties and their quality of life. You will destroy all of this by building a sewage plant in our backyards. At no point did we receive any notification of this proposal. Trying to push through this development without more frequent, informative updates feels deceitful. It’s a betrayal of a significant portion of this city’s taxpayers who expected more transparency.
I run a pigeon and dove rescue. So many people do not understand that this practice is so cruel. They don’t realize that most of birds released never make it home. They are left abandoned, they are often young, they have no survival skills and being bright white makes them an instant target for predators. So many of the birds you see released at special events will die horrible deaths. This practice is inhumane and exploitative. It should be banned.
