Beavers play a crucial role in ecosystems as ecosystem engineers, creating wetlands and habitats for various species. Recently, efforts to protect beavers and their habitats have gained momentum, with petitions focusing on preventing beaver trapping, conserving their natural habitats, and promoting coexistence with humans.
Notable petitions include one urging for the ban on beaver trapping to protect their populations and preserve wetland ecosystems. Another petition advocates for the implementation of beaver-friendly management practices to mitigate conflicts between beavers and human development.
Get involved in supporting these petitions to safeguard beavers and their vital ecological contributions. By standing up for beavers, you can contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of natural ecosystems. Take action now to ensure a sustainable future for these remarkable creatures.
It is absolutely premature and unnecessary to remove, let alone kill, this young beaver from its natural habitat. Please do your research on how beneficial beavers are to the ecosystem and how much they contribute to the biodiversity of the lake, therefore beautifying it rather than harming it. Perhaps Wally can even be a new "mascot" of Kingstowne lake. Educational signs can be added along the trail so that residents can learn more about these fascinating animals, why they need our protection, and how to peacefully coexist with them. It would be absolutely amazing to see a segment on the Kingstonian as well. Children can make drawings of Wally and enter into a contest! Thank you for reconsidering.
We should not see wildlife as a threat but rather a neighbor we cohabitate with. These animals are not looking to make our lives more difficult or challenging we should be blessed to be able to live amongst such beautiful creatures. This is such a shame that they are allowed to harm an animal this way.
I think KROC wanting to kill Wally is disgusting. He isn't causing damage. I love seeing the wildlife on my walks and I'd love to spot this little guy from a distance one day. KROC instead of trying to kill the wildlife why don't you maintain the area we pay you for. He will do more for the environment then you probably will ever do.
We need nature and it's creature's. There is so much beauty in it.
Let Wally be.
My family always looks for Wally when walking around the lake. Not looking forward to explaining to my daughter that the HOA hired someone to kill him because he's a "nuisance". This money to kill an innocent animal who's only "problem" is existing in its natural habitat must have come from the funds unallocated from the mass surveillance systems KROC wanted to install in the neighborhoods. Every KROC member who decided this is the best course of action should be ashamed of themselves.
There is no reason why any innocent wildlife needs to have its life ended. there are simple ways to manage water flow including blocking the needed water flow areas so the beaver can build somewhere else in the pond. They are attracted to the sound of running water..if you have a speaker with the sound of water flow near a beaver they will start to build a dam on the speaker (a beaver rehab person showed this)..so if you want wally to be on a part of the dam not blocking water flow to surrounding overflow from storm water,,,than create a little water flow with a tube that will reroute water (not hard for landscapers to design),... and he can reside there peacefully..Please leave that little guy alone and leave his home alone..learn to live peacefully with the Creator's creatures ..use your thinking instead of quickly moving to destruction..there is always another way.. learn about the beaver's natural ways,.. get a wildlife expert to help a landscaper to design a place for him..and possibly to manage any overabundance of growth from the dam..it's not expensive to manage..and work around it ..I pray you all do the right thing.. I shop at Kingstowne weekly and I enjoy going around to see Wally and showing him to my family as well..--don't do this to the kids that adore him as well..it's not right..it's just the wrong choice.
Killing Wally is not only inhumane but not the solution! We are a very fortunate community to be so close to a preserved wetlands at Huntley Meadows where wildlife like Wally can call home. It is our duty and responsibility to coexist with the wildlife in whose natural habitat we have the privilege of living. If you kill Wally, there will be another Wally, who will take up residence at the lake as wildlife habitat becomes more and more scarce. What are you going to do then- kill off the next Wally and the one thereafter to preserve your material possessions and abstract notions of property values? This is not the solution for a civilized society that I hope we do still live in.
