I am a prominent (but preferably anonymous) local business owner who grew up in Neerim. From my great, great grandparents, to my very own grandchildren, the Shire at large is as home to me as my own skin (albeit less wrinkled). I state my history to help accentuate my frustration with the current council’s decision to make rubbish collection a bi-weekly venture. My granddaughter has 13 children (Mormon, quadruplets) and of which, most are still using diapers. What is she to do? If this decision was put forth to the hard-working citizens of the shire, commonplace issues such as this could have been discussed. If the council was insistent, then they could have at least provided some semblance of an alternative. Something smells here and it’s not the accumulating rubbish

We already have 2 red bins go out chockers every week, there's no way we can go fortnightly.
We already have a worm farm for our food scraps plus 2 dogs that also eat our scraps.
We recycle bottles and cans for the 10c scheme and burn cardboard in a pot belly. Yet we still manage to fill out red bins.
This really needs to be considered maybe more on a family situation as I know my grandmother would have a tiny little bag in her red bin and could easily go to a monthly pick up.
I don't believe this should be a all in or all out situation. But definitely isn't going to work for my family.

REALITY -- until you check the fine print -- the entire scheme is capped at $10000 a year! for the whole shire. Split across the 1000s of households living here that's not meaningful support and it does nothin for renters, who can't install a worm farm or compost bin on a property they dont own. Council needs to explain how a $10000 pool is supposed to cover everyone in need?!

Women make up the majority of unpaid carers that are more likely to manage the disposal of medical and continence products, and also require disposal of menstrual products and infant nappies. As a result, the burden falls on women, potentially amounting to both disability and sex discrimination under the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act. Please share this petition, email and call council everyday. Bring back the Bin!
