Protect Barton Springs like the natural treasure it is—just like the cenotes in Mexico! In many parts of Mexico, visitors are required to shower before entering cenotes and only wear eco-friendly sunscreen to protect the delicate freshwater ecosystems from harmful chemicals like sunscreen, lotion, and sweat. Barton Springs deserves the same care.
Every day, a visible oil slick forms on the water’s surface—this isn’t just unpleasant to swim in, it’s harmful to the endangered species that call Barton Springs home, like the Barton Springs Salamander. Requiring swimmers to rinse off before entering the water is a simple, effective step to keep our springs clean and safe for generations to come.
