The land of Emeralda is dry right now but it’s not always this way. I grew up on Emeralda, my mother drove the school bus. I’ve seen times when the water was so high the bus was the only vehicle that could get through. Leave our wetlands alone. We need places that remind us of the Florida that once was. Not the overgrown mess it is now.
The lake at Belmar Park is the reason I’ve continued to live in this neighborhood for years. This area is a unique and crucially important sanctuary for so many birds and other species of wildlife that are already under threat from human habitat destruction. Unchecked development, loss of trees, and construction pollution in this area would be devastating to this community and the wildlife we love.
I've been a Lakewood resident for 29 years, it's so sad this development is threatening an area that was donated to the city by Mrs. Boechetter. Developers can find a way to do this without disturbing a park that was there long before their new apartments
It is our responsibility to protect the planet that we've colonized and already irreparably damaged. Construction of luxury, unaffordable housing at the expense of the environment is unconscionable. "Profit-over-all" development is a scourge of lazy, greedy, owner class leeches that cuts corners and ignores the value of green space and environmentally integrated and conscious architecture brings to communities and the environment. The city and state should not be green lighting projects like this without well developed plans and assurances for conservation
Developers shouldn't be able to buy their way out of doing the right thing for wildlife. City council members should disclose any ties they might have to any project or development. Tired of regular citizens being taken out of all choices.
The song was right. " They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot."
Belmar Park is an oasis of nature in the city. A luxury apartment complex will ruin this treasure of a park. I am a photographer and I love bringing my camera to this park to photograph the numerous animal species that call this park home. Please do not destroy this beautiful park. We don't need more luxury apartments anyway we need affordable housing in Colorado! And we need to care for nature!
These lakes provide critical habitat to many species of wildlife which would suffer greatly, and the park itself would be much worse with some huge apartments next to it. Plus it's not even affordable housing? Denver does not need another luxury apartment building! Protect wildlife and support the people who are actually in need of housing.
