The amount of dead animals on the side of the road breaks my heart. I myself hit a kitten about a year ago and took it to an emergency vet to be put down and it was truly one of the worst experiences of my life. I've read that putting animal fences can reduce roadkill by over 50% and I think it's an extremely effective step we can take to preserving our environment the best we can.

FRESNO ANIMAL CENTER IS THE CITY PICK UP FOR ANIMALS in Fresno BUT THEY WILL NOT PICK UP THIS FRIENDLY MALE DOG RUNNING ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD BECAUSE HE IS NOT DEAD, INJURED OR Aggressive! They advised me to let him go, don’t corral him, they will NOT COME & pick him up! I am so upset & I cannot keep him! I thought they would help! Not advise me to let him go & take a chance on getting hit & killed by a vehicle (as I explained to the employee & how the dog narrowly missed being hit several times! He disregarded what I said)! Not only are they jeopardizing the animals life, the chance is high of being hit by a car but also the humans lives too! To put ALL lives in danger of injury or death is unfathomable! Unconscionable! Wow! No feelings or compassion at all! You look at their website, it gives you a sense of relief, compassion & hope! THANK GOD! Looks like they adopt out many animals BUT after speaking with one of their employees on 2/19/25 I feel like it’s all a LIE, a SCAM! Extremely HEARTBREAKING! Devastating for the beautiful, innocent, unconditional loving animals! All these overwhelming sad feelings have engulfed my whole being, shattered my heart into a million pieces! What a tremendous let down! NO HOPE for this loving, sweet boy & other beautiful animals that desperately need HELP! What was being told to me on the phone by the employee was the city of Fresno refuses to pick up & advises customers to let the animal go?! WTF?! The city of fresno & the Fresno animal center are waiting for a lawsuit to happen! Unbelievable! Utterly disgusting! Devastating for the animals, like this sweet boy who has such a great disposition. I asked if there were any other facilities that would take him & the employee stated there is no other place that will take in animals! Only they do! But they are refusing to take him! Sad! I am heartbroken! I will have to let him go & his chances are not good! Such a good sweet boy! 💔

I can’t count how many stray dogs I see running across busy streets near my neighborhood every day. Just last week, I saw a dog get hit by a car on Blackstone Avenue. The driver didn’t even slow down. That poor dog dragged itself to the side of the road, collapsed, and died. It was horrifying to watch, and I can’t get the image out of my head. Why isn’t the city doing anything about this? We need stronger penalties for hit-and-runs involving animals and more resources for rescuing these innocent creatures.

Our shelters are overcrowded, and healthy animals are being euthanized because of the city's failure to address this crisis. We need more funding for spay/neuter programs and better shelter conditions. Animals deserve better!

My cat went missing a few months ago, and after months of looking later found out she had been taken to a local shelter and had already been put down because the shelter was "too overcrowded" to hold her. She was microchipped, and they didn’t even scan her properly to notify me. This city stole something from me that I will never be able to replace. SHAME ON YOU COUNCIL MEMBERS.

I’ve seen people abandon pets in my neighborhood several times, but the worst was when I found a dog tied to a tree in a vacant lot. It was starving, and its leash was so short it couldn’t even lie down. I called a rescue group, and they managed to save the dog, but the fact that someone thought this was acceptable is appalling. Fresno needs to take a stand against this kind of cruelty by enforcing pet abandonment laws and supporting shelters that can give these animals a second chance.

Fresno City Council Members need to understand that we are not going to budge unless they start helping with the pet overpopulation problem. I'm tired of seeing dead dogs/cats on the road, and on the Freeway, which reminds me, there is a white long haired (60lbs +/-) dog on the left side of Fwy 41 Southbound, possibly between Ashland-McKinley (deceased on the grassy area). This is too much....I've contemplated about moving away from Fresno just to get away from all this heartbreaking tragedies. Our dogs & cats deserve better!

The stray animal problem isn’t just about animals—it’s about our community. When I drive through neighborhoods littered with stray dogs and cats, it sends a message that we don’t care. It’s not just heartbreaking—it’s embarrassing. No business or family wants to move to a city that lets its streets turn into dumping grounds. Fresno, we need to do better for the animals and for ourselves.

It breaks my heart to see stray dogs and cats suffering on our streets every day. What kind of city lets its animals die in pain and neglect? We need enforcement, shelters, and real action NOW!
