There has been a slight incline in the Vaquita Porpoises population that is giving us hope. There are now at 7-10 individuals, including sightings of calves (at least one or two). Conservation efforts, including removing illegal gillnets with concrete anchors and hooks, are showing promise by reducing net presence in their critical habitat in Mexico's Gulf of California, offering a glimmer of hope for this tiny "panda of the sea" to potentially recover from the brink.
