Been driving since I was 16 now 63 and had my first accident leaving work. Now I go down the street to Scarpelli's or church and turn around due to PSTD from my accident there. I live in Rawlings so to be safe I turn around and go home to be safe. Coworker also totalled her car there. Downtown renovation multi million but can't put a light to save lives. We need to be able to have a say in where our tax dollars go.
On May 13th 2011,my oldest son Walter Edward Perkins Jr., was killed in a fatal car crash on C.R.42,4 adults, my son, his girlfriend (mother of his children),another male and female, and my 14 month old granddaughter, and an unborn baby, my son, his girlfriend and her unborn baby died that night. Thank God my granddaughter and the others lived, alot of things played a factor that horrible night, the road conditions on the curve at cr 42 and fullerville Road have alway's been dangerous. When I first moved to Lake County from South Florida in 2001 a very good friend had told me about all the crosses that were already up and down County Road 42 how many more people have to lose loved ones before somebody does something this is ridiculous.
I have family that live on these roads and I myself drive down 42 to my workplace I recently almost got hit head on by another vehicle trying to pass. These roads need to be safer enough is enough!
Our son lives off this road in Paisley. I pray every day that he makes it home safe. Even if someone is not being reckless, this road could use substantial improvement, just due to the increased traffic flow and the blind and sharp curves. There is a reason why sections of the road have nicknames like "dead man's curve."
It is sad to think the people of the rural Lake county areas are pushed to the side as if we don’t matter. We pay taxes and it’s even more tragic to have so many lives lost due to the lack of action from previous cries being ignored. So now we as a community are screaming from the roof tops for action. We won’t stop until something is done to prevent more loss of life. We are tired of burying our family, friends, and neighbors. Thank you to all speaking out!
I have been driving State Road 44 since the 80s and I can tell you my route back and forth to work in DeLand for over 20 I have seen more than 100 accidents half of them fatalities specifically the intersection at 44A and 4:37 in front of the new Dollar General that is death waiting to happen I see it every morning no flashing light no caution light and there needs to be more officers and troopers on the road to see what's going on passing and non-passing Lanes the trash trucks deliver every Wednesday morning backing up traffic that causes problems the list goes on and on something has to be done, also around the Pine Lakes area there have been so many accidents I can't even list them all maybe putting in a caution light stop sticks something needs to be done with the growing area around Eustis Mount Dora and the Sorrento area these are back roads that were used to and with more traffic these out of Staters are not familiar with our back roads so please help us do whatever we can to protect ourselves and our children from these deadly roads thank you
People are passing on double lines every day, going at least 20 miles over the speed limit. This is not just a recent issue, this has been ongoing, but nothing gets done about it. Fatalities and road closures are a weekly, and sometimes more often occurrence. Police/trooper presence will only be a temporary improvement, turn lanes for those turning right off of 44, will help, because people don't pay enough attention to realize 4 cars ahead, are slowing down to turn.
