Tighter anti-bullying policies in school

Tighter anti-bullying policies in school
The Issue
This is a petition to change and review the anti-bullying policies within schools in the UK as it is evidently proven numerously to be ineffective, neither is it taken seriously by staff.
In January 2017, Shukri Abdi, a somali refugee described to have the “sweetest soul” by a friend, settled in Greater Manchester in hopes of acquiring a better life. Shukri was enrolled in Hazel Wood High School (formerly Broadoak Sports College) where she’d later endure fatal bullying. Students in her class would often tease Shukri and describe her to having a “foul smell”, she was isolated by her peers resulting in her finding difficulty to make friends. She was eventually adopted into a loving friendship group, who were in year 11 at the time, and was evidently cherished by them. A group of girls would often follow Shukri and her mother home whilst chanting racial slurs at the pair regularly, but when her mother reported it to the school in a haste attempt for it to come to an end, it was to no avail. The school ignored it and no consequence was endures by the individuals. In June 2019, Shukri went to the river with four children. She was pushed around by two girls which resulted in her death. Another child even laughed as she drowned. Unfortunately, this was ruled as an “accident” by the Great Manchester Police and no further investigation was made into her death.
One could possibly argue that her race was a contributing factor to the little effort made to investigate her death and grant her the justice both her family and she deserves (which it undeniably is!), however, this could’ve all been avoided if the anti-bullying policy was tighter and if her bullying was taken seriously by the school to begin with!
A study in the UK found that half of suicides among young people occur because of bullying. This cannot continue to happen. Parents cannot continue to mourn for their children’s deaths due to bullying not being taken seriously!
Sign this petition to prevent other young people fall victim to bullying and to grant justice to victims of bullying.
