Evacuate Gaza's UK-inbound students! Establish a framework!

Evacuate Gaza's UK-inbound students! Establish a framework!
The Issue
We call on the UK government to take immediate and decisive action to support and facilitate the arrival of over 120 Gazan students holding offers from UK universities. These students have met significant barriers in their efforts to pursue higher education, and the current framework is failing to provide the necessary support.
Our investigation has revealed several critical issues that must be addressed:
- Discrimination Against Self-Funded Students: The government has shown a clear refusal to prioritize and evacuate self-funded student visa applicants, treating them as a lower priority.
- Barriers for Dependents: The government's actions discriminates against most students with families by not allowing them to bring dependents. There is a lack of an exceptional framework for Gazan students with spouses and children.
- Logistical Failures: Evacuation efforts have been hampered by logistical issues, including the use of only a few/a single bus(es), leading to inefficient and slow processes.
- Unreasonable English Standards: Gazan students holding foundation year offers are being subjected to impossible and discriminatory English language standards.
- University-Level Discrimination: Due to harsh regulations enforced by the University Compliance Assessment, some UK universities are discriminating against Gazan students, creating further obstacles.
These issues have created an unjust and discriminatory system that prevents these deserving students from continuing their education. We urge the government to create an immediate framework to support Gazan offer holders with the following considerations in mind:
- Discover All Gazan Offer Holders: Establish a systematic process for identifying Gazan Offer holders at UK universities.
- Prioritize and Evacuate Self-Funded Students: Urgently prioritize and evacuate all self-funded student visa applicants from Gaza.
- Allow Dependents: Allow all Gazan students to bring their immediate dependents (spouse and children) with them.
- Improve Evacuation Logistics: Utilize multiple, UK-marked buses to allow for more efficient and rapid evacuations.
- Allow University English Assessments for foundation year offer holders: Give Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) the authority to assess the English language skills of their Gazan foundation year offer holders as is already done for degree-level offer holders.
- Grant Exceptional Status: Grant an exception for Gazan students to the statistics used during the University Compliance Assessments, ensuring they are not penalized by university regulations.
- Abolish the Deadline: Remove the December 31st deadline. Any Gazan student with a UK university offer and appropriate funding should be evacuated no matter whether their offer starts in fall or spring.
By addressing these points, the UK government can uphold its commitment to education and human rights, ensuring that these students are given the opportunity to pursue their studies in a safe and supportive environment.
