Save Jacob Riis
The Issue
I have spent countless summer days at Jacob Riis beach, a historic sanctuary that has welcomed generations of the NYC LGBTQ+ community. This beach is a symbol of freedom, acceptance, and community—something that has been increasingly rare in the USA.
Now, there is a real threat that Jacob Riis beach will be privatized and made "family friendly" and its spirit forever changed. The potential privatization would not only deny safe beach access to a historically underrepresented community but also threaten the cultural significance of this cherished landmark.
This change is not just about a piece of land; it's about erasing a pivotal staple of our community's history and identity.
We strongly urge the decision-makers and stakeholders to recognize the historical and cultural importance of Jacob Riis beach and reject any further plans for development on the beach
By signing this petition, you stand with us in preserving a significant piece of our heritage and ensuring that future generations of the LGBTQ+ community can enjoy the same freedoms and acceptance that we have cherished. Help us show that public land should remain public, and let’s keep Jacob Riis beach a haven for all.
Please sign this petition to protect the legacy and inclusivity of Jacob Riis beach.
