Rename Custer Airport

Rename Custer Airport
The Issue
The City of Monroe owns and is responsible for the operation of Custer Airport, located west of Munson Park. This valuable City facility has a 5000-foot long, 100-foot wide runway, along with a full parallel taxiway capable of servicing a wide variety of General Aviation aircraft. Custer Airport is home to many recreational tenants, and nearly all of the hangars are rented year-round.
The Custer Airport is named after General Custer who On November 26, 1868 located a large village of Cheyenne encamped near the Washita River, just outside of present-day Cheyenne, Oklahoma.... Within a few hours, the village was destroyed—the soldiers had killed 103 Cheyenne, including the peaceful Black Kettle and many women and children. The city of Monroe should not have a community airport named for man who committed such atrocities.
The airport should be renamed.
