Tell the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism if DR does not cease rolling back the birthright citizenship of Haitian migrants we will spend our tourism money in other countries.

The Issue

Recently the Dominican Republic has called an order to audit the nations birth records back to 1929. This puts the citizenship of tens of thousands of individuals (of Haitian descent) into question. The birth certificates of these individuals who consider DR their homeland have been nullified and people cannot apply for things such as college or a passport. If the Dominican Republic succeeds in this purge, people will be without a home and nation. Many believe that this purge is racially motivated on the part of the Dominican Republic and the United Nations high commissioner has warned them of the ramifications.

It is our responsibility as travelers to tell the Dominican Republic we do not ascribe to their agenda of pushing tens to hundreds of thousands of individuals out of the only home they've known. We must make our voices heard and stand in solidarity with the children of individuals brought to the Dominican Republic to work the sugar cane fields. Tell the Dominican Republic that they are not the only area with sandy beaches where we could spend our well earned money. Tell them you choose not to invest in hatred and racism and until they, wisely, opt out of this persecution we will spend our money at other regions such as Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Barbados... We will be certain to not give any money to the Dominican Republic until they move away from this damaging agenda. Tell the Dominican Republic to cease in the rolling back of Birthright Citizenship.
