Shelby County-Memphis City School Board: Keep Our World Class Elementary & Middle School World Language Programs

Shelby County-Memphis City School Board: Keep Our World Class Elementary & Middle School World Language Programs
The Issue
World Languages are essential to a world class education. Speakers of modern languages, such as Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Arabic are considered critical needs by the United States government. Classical languages, such as Spanish, French and German are equally as important to communicate internationally and within our own borders. In addition, language instruction must start in elementary school where children's minds are most apt to master them. Critical languages at a critical stage in life will create the world's next leaders. Depriving our children of world languages until high school is detrimental, and when finally given the option to learn a language in high school it is too little too late. Keep languages and cultures alive in our children's minds and ensure a better tomorrow. KEEP OUR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL WORLD LANGUAGE PROGRAMS!
