For generations of Bayview Hunters Point residents, walking into the Bayview Branch Library is like walking into "Linda's house."  Linda Brooks-Burton devoted her life to the SF Public Library and the Bayview Hunters Point community, and embodied the SFPL's mission of "free and equal access to information for all."

Linda was the Managing Librarian at the Bayview branch for 15 years before promotion to District Manager.  She worked for the SF Public Library for 30 years total.  She was the driving force and central champion behind the new branch library building project. 

At the branch library, Linda co-founded the African American History Preservation Project to create digital archives about a vanishing piece of local history, and co-founded the Bayview Footprints Network of Community Building Groups.  She served on the Bayview community boards of Whitney Young Child Development Center and Healing Arts Youth Center.  

When Linda Brooks-Burton died suddenly on September 19th, the outpouring of love was phenomenal.  In one day, 300 people signed a paper petition to rename the branch library after her. That’s no surprise to the thousands of Bayview Hunters Point residents whose lives she touched by fostering a safe and vibrant place on 3rd and Revere in Bayview for children, youth, families, education, and community. 

Signing this petition endorses the wishes of Bayview Hunters Point residents to honor a person so appreciated, respected and loved by all who came to know her.
