Preserve Thanksgiving for EVERYONE! 

Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day, currently celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November by federal legislation in 1941, has been an annual tradition in the United States since the proclamation of President Abraham Lincoln on October 3, 1863, and by state legislation since the Founding Fathers of the United States. 

2013 is the Sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's proclamation, and unfortunately, this year we see less and less respect for this most national of holidays, as evinced by retailers and businesses across our country opening stores and restaurants earlier and earlier on this day, depriving their workers and their families of the chance to "observe ...with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God ..." This change, though it may seem insignificant, signals a breakdown of our society from one which respects and honors the family and our national heritage to one which honors money and shareholder reports on the one hand (business) and extreme bargain shopping and consumerism on the other (the consumer).  

The tragedy here is that our own government will not stand up to business, even to save our national heritage.  As long as business compensates their employees, they rationalize that there has been no harm done.  But I say that harm is done to each and every one of us, as our family and national values are slowly eroded and replaced by the values of profit and greed.

But I am only one voice.  I say that Thanksgiving IS NOT FOR SALE!  and neither is our COUNTRY FOR SALE!!  Stand up to Big Business and tell them that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!  Vote with your name, then vote with your dollars!  Vote with your ballot, too, if that's what it takes to wake up our country!   Tell them we the PEOPLE will not be bullied, we will be heard, and we want our holiday off limits to Big Business!
