No public money for private schools. No school vouchers in Tennessee. (HB0190/SB0196)

No public money for private schools. No school vouchers in Tennessee. (HB0190/SB0196)

The Issue

Research shows that children who use vouchers to attend private schools do not demonstrate significant improvements in student achievement. Private schools that take vouchers are not required to provide special services for children with disabilities or language needs, provide transportation to their schools, or utilize licensed teachers. And, because most private schools in Tennessee are religious, vouchers use tax money to fund particular religious instruction to which many taxpayers may have objections.
