Save Toro Park
The Issue
“Three softball fields along with a combination soccer-football field and ancillary structures in a small portion of the 4,756-acre park” (Herald news, Jim Johnson) is being proposed within Toro Regional Park.
This is an inappropriate attempt by privatized interests to seize control over a much-loved community funded public park used for decades by Monterey County Schools cross-country programs as their home course and as a Central Coast Section Championship approved course.
This will affect many individuals and families from Salinas, South County, North County and the Peninsula who use the Park to celebrate birthdays, Quinceañeras and weddings, church events, family reunions, etc.
This will "destroy the rural nature" of Toro Regional Park by adding permanent backstops, and storage and concession buildings.
This will displace thousands who currently use the park as an inclusive environment to be replaced with an exclusive crowd of a few baseball players who own property nearby.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our elected leaders to act now to Stop the Proposed one sided renovation of the Toro Park Badger Flats area. Save Toro Park!
