I moved to Orlando a couple of years ago to get my masters in urban planning. One of the keys to sustaining effective urban areas is having effective convenient transportation options to all areas of the city. However, despite public transit and other existing transportation services, people in Orlando still need options for safe, friendly, affordable rides. Orlando's city leaders should embrace technology to improve mobility for residents.

Lyft operates in over 60 cities across the country. These cities compete with Orlando to attract talent and industries. I have tried Lyft in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Miami. These cities and many more have already embraced ridesharing apps like Lyft and offer safe rides to millions of passengers by connecting background-checked local drivers with people seeking rides through trusted networks. Orlando deserves the same.

Ridesharing apps show us a picture of our driver and their car, track everything by GPS, and show us exactly when they will arrive. They even have a rating system and 24-hour customer service to provide accountability and make sure riders have an enjoyable experience. Ridesharing helps to combat drunk driving, reduces road congestion, makes a positive impact on the environment, and improves public safety for our community. Orlando should support innovation and welcome these apps.
