Keep Floridians Safe - Keep Our "Stand Your Ground" Law
The Issue
The "Stand Your Ground" Law recognizes the individual's right to self defense when in “reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily harm". This is good legislation. It supports a right that was recognized since before the Magna Carta was developed, and was supported by our Founding Fathers when they saw the need to include the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights.
The police can not be all places at all times. In the majority of assaults, the victim's only line of defense is self defense. By the time the police arrive, the damage is done.
We, the law-abiding citizens of the Great State of Florida, see no reason to eliminate a law that supports our ability to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm. We do not want our elected officials to react in a knee-jerk fashion to one isolated incident that has not even been fully investigated simply to be politically correct.
