SAVE THE WOODLANDS! STOP THE TOWNHOUSES!

The Issue

Sign this petition urging Borough Council to deny requests to build 85 townhouses on a 100-year floodplain located at Fulmor Avenue and Warminster Road.

A 100-year floodplan, as defined by FEMA, is an area that has a one in one hundred chance of flooding in a given year. Interfering with these natural function can exacerbate flooding, resulting in costly property damage and LOSS OF LIFE!(Source:http://www.hatborogov.org/images/pdfs/Hatboro-Comprehensive-Plan.pdf)

In response to Thursday's Intelligencer article indicating this area is not part of the 100 year floodplain. This area is declared as being part of the 100 year floodplain in  FEMA Preliminary Flooplain Maps - Hatboro. The other portion of the land is delcared as "other flood area"(Source: https://www.rampp-team.com/county_maps/pennsylvania/montgomery/42091C0311G.pdf) Since this is a Preliminary Map we have included the Comprehensive Plan that was adopted by the Hatboro Borough Council. This comprehensive plan also indicates that the proposed land falls in the 100-year Floodplain. (Source: http://www.hatborogov.org/images/pdfs/Hatboro-Comprehensive-Plan.pdf) page 112. In addition, the entirety of Station Park emcompasses 40 acres not the development site. Per the information presented at the zoning meeting on May 6th, the proposed development site for 84 townhouses was 6.24 acres. That is right 14 homes per acre.

Less than 352 yards away from the proposed development site, Firefighters had to rescue 30 residents from the flooded Village Green apartments. The floodwaters prevented Firefighters from battling the flames, resulting from a natural gas explosion and fire. Saddening, six Village Green residents succumbed to the floodwater and flames. http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-308378
