Children's safety at risk in Lyttelton Playing Fields if Barnet's proposal gets go ahead.

The Issue

Barnet Council is currently consulting on holding private events for up to 499 people in marquees in Lyttelton Playing Fields on weekends over the summer and in coming years.

Their proposal would allow lorries and vans to enter Lyttelton Playing Fields along the public footpath and to unload at a marquee construction site right next to the playground, puttting children's safety on the footpath and at the construction site at risk. A permanent car park for commercial vans and lorries built over green space in the park also forms part of the proposal.

In addition to risks to child safety, park users and residents would be effected by the impact of noise nuisance, a permanent loss of green space, traffic congestion and limited availability of parking in the surrounding streets. Local wildlife would be adversely affected by the light pollution implicit in the scheme.
