Add A Mens Rights Category
The Issue
While this may seem like an unusual request to many, there are in fact men's-specific issues that constitute a strong reason to protect the innocent. Many laws were conceived hundreds of years ago, when society was much different. Now, these aged laws are creating situations that everyone, regardless of gender can agree constitute injustice.
EXAMPLES OF INJUSTICE
- - According to the Supreme Court, a man must pay child support, even if he was raped. In fact, in California, a 15 year old boy was forced to pay child support to his rapist.
- - Men may be forced to pay child support to a child that is not theirs. A Michigan man is being forced to pay for child support to a child that is not his, concieved when he was still married to his now divorced wife.
- - Men can be expelled from campuses for sexual assault accusations, even when the police find there is no evidence to support the accusations. A man has been expelled from his college, even when police found him innocent, and determined that his accuser had manufactured evidence.
- - Men can be presumed guilty solely based on their gender. Both Quantas Airlines and Virgin Atlantic have degradingly required men to move from their seats after selling them seats next to unaccompanied children.
- - According to the US Department of Justice, men cannot be raped by a woman. A 39 year old man, after escaping from an abusive relationship, including rape, still finds it hard to engage sexually, and impossible to get prosecution for the perpetrator.
This is a handful of examples of Men's Rights issues. As you can see, there are many men's specific issues that warrant further consideration by the public.
OUTCOMES
If Change.org adds a men's rights category, society will better be able to consider issues like reproductive rights, presumed innocence, and equality of punishment for equivalent crimes.
