Allow the current OETC rules to remain in place

The Issue

Many Canadians spend 6 months or longer outside of the Country earning a living and return to Canada with a salary that would have otherwise gone to a foreign country. One of the advantages to these individuals and the one thing that makes them marketable outside of Canada is the OETC. These individuals sacrifice time away from their families working outside of the country and return with foreign capital earned through Canadian companies or agencies, injecting it into their local economies. Without the OETC many of these individuals would not be able to compete with an international workforce.

This arrangement is very common in several other Countries as well.  In the UK if seafarers spend half the year working at sea then they can reclaim the majority if not all of their income tax back.

As Canadians are working overseas the Canadian government seeks to undermine their ability to compete with an international workforce.

Canadians have a reputation in the international workforce that is being grossly neglected and disrespected by the current government.  By phasing out the Overseas Employment Tax Credit (OETC), they greatly reduce the ability to compete with lower wages in the international workforce.

Please help to show your support for these hard working individuals who spend half their lives away from their families and return to Canada with foreign capital injecting it into their local communities.
