Berkeley's vibrant school gardening and cooking programs are in danger of losing their federal funding for next year. This program shows children how the food grown in the garden helps their bodies grow and also teaches them about science, math and many other subjects at the same time. For 15 years the program has served as a model for the rest of the country, helping kids and families fight obesity while improving learning readiness, academic performances, and engagement. We are an alliance of parents, teachers and community members who are looking for creative solutions for long-term, stable support for these programs that have proven health and educational benefits for all of our children. We believe prioritizing these programs is critical to fighting childhood obesity, improving academic performance, and providing our kids with essential life skills for success.
