From Petition Organizer: Apple called me to say that they had removed "bisexual" as a flagged term in the App Store. We received 1,100 signatures in less than 24 hours. I was able to leverage that when I emailed Apple about the issue and they called me within minutes!

Quist is a new app available on the iTunes App Store for free. Released on July 27, 2013 it has already been downloaded 10,000 times for iOS and Android (80% of those through the iTunes App Store). It is an educational app about LGBTQ history.

When Quist's owner updated the text of the App Store description on August 12, 2013, she received the following message in iTunes Connect:

"The following is not recommended for use in this field: bisexual. Your app may be rejected if you use this term."

Apple, "bisexual" is not a dirty word. It is the identity of millions of people. Your company has said it is pro-LGBT and proven it with action many times. Show it in all of your policies, including acceptable language for your App Store.

Remove "bisexual" as an unacceptable word for use in app descriptions. Bisexual people are not a spam word!

Sincerely,

As a bisexual who uses apple products it is important to me that the word bisexual is considered acceptable in app descriptions especially when using the lgbt acronym!

Because gender identity is not the province of corporations to decide if it is permissible language in computer applications. Who do they think they are, "Big Brother"? Or The Digital Pope?

Because bisexual is not an inappropriate term and should be viewed by all users.

No one should be discriminated on fundamental human rights.

I have close friends who are bisexuals who would be deeply hurt if they were aware that Apple considers their sexuality a spam word.
