Meeting March 12, 4: Courthouse 2nd floor.
The amendment may have passed, but efforts are under way to have it changed!
If you read the TACIR report, put out by TN. The report reads that....,
Solar panels ae considered hazardous waste when they are being disposed of. They must be tested before going into a landfill. They can be recycled, but it cost $18-$45 per panel to have this done at a proper facility.
The decommissioning law (removal of panels) is not mandatory to Solar companies that own the land, companies that lease may also not have to pay for removal as the scrap value may be more than the decommissioning cost.
I have found estimates of 2,000-4,000 panels per acre. 10,000 acres with 2,000 panels per acre will mean 20 Million panels that will have to be disposed of in 20 years!
Solar facilities (farms) do affect property values.
They compete with farming as they increase the cost to lease crop land.
The report also states that counties have the authority to address solar issues through ZONING!
Any changes to this amendment will have to go through the Planning Committee. They meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 4:00 in the Courthouse.
We need to continue to Show up, Speak up, Call our Commissioners, if we want the recently passed amendment to stand.
