Support the Senior Living Community coming to Closter, N.J. | #KeepSeniorsInCloster
The Issue
Closter, N.J. currently has no senior housing community, leaving local seniors without a home and forcing them outside the Borough, far from their families. As a community, we must work together to #KeepSeniorsInCloster by supporting the Residences at Reuten Park, a proposed luxury senior housing community in Closter that will provide numerous enhancements to the community, businesses, and schools. More details highlighting the benefits of the Residences at Reuten Park are below – and to help support the initiative, sign the petition!
Background: The Reuten family has owned, lived, and operated their businesses at 231 and 239 Herbert Avenue since the 1940’s. The Reuten family is seeking a variance to transform outdated post-WW II-era industrial buildings into a luxury senior living community. The site’s current zoning allows for an industrial development.
Benefits: The Residences at Reuten Park will help meet the region’s unmet and growing demand for senior housing, beautify the site, reduce traffic and noise from the current industrial use, and increase the borough’s tax base by an estimated $1 million each year, including $700,000 for the Closter Public Schools, nearly 10 times the amount the school district currently receives in tax revenues from the property.
More Details:
- The community will provide a mix of independent living, assisted living and memory care for seniors.
- The community offers all-inclusive rental units with one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments situated on beautifully landscaped grounds.
- Amenities include multiple restaurants, an outdoor dining courtyard with beautifully landscaped grounds, pool area with a fire pit, a yoga/games/activities lawn, a community garden, two gazebos, walking trails, a spa/salon, a pond and boardwalk, fitness center and more.
- A total of 90 trees, plus ample shrubs and bushes, will be planted to provide attractive landscaping and buffering to adjacent properties.
- A market research study confirmed that The Residences at Reuten Park is necessary to help meet growing demand for independent, assisted living and memory care housing in Bergen County.

“We believe that transforming the oldest portion of Reuten Corporate Park from a manufacturing center to a beautiful luxury senior housing community is the ‘highest and best use’ of our land,” said Mike Reuten, owner and managing partner, Reuten Associates. “It will beautify the neighborhood and add a significant asset to our community – benefitting seniors, families, neighbors and local businesses.”
“Often times, seniors like me have to move outside of their communities because of the lack of senior housing options,” said Pat Reuten, co-owner of Reuten Associates. “This new development will be a wonderful way to allow seniors to stay close to their families in Closter while still giving them the opportunity to embrace their independence.”
“We fully support plans to convert the industrial park into a residential community that will benefit seniors and add to the charm and beauty of our town,” said Mary Ann Hubschman, who owns and operates the Palisades Country Day School across the street from Reuten Corporate Park with her husband Richard Hubschman. “This development will more than meet the needs of seniors in Closter which currently doesn’t offer this type of housing for our residents.”
