Zimbabweans for the Protection of Life

Zimbabweans for the Protection of Life
The Issue
Petition to Stop the Medical Services Amendment Bill (Abortion Bill)
We, the undersigned citizens of Zimbabwe, respectfully call upon the His Excellency,
Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa President of the Republic of Zimbabwe to withhold assent from the Medical Services Amendment Bill that seeks to liberalise abortion laws in our country.
Zimbabwe is a nation rooted in strong moral, cultural, and Christian values, where the protection of life has always been upheld. While current law already provides limited exceptions in extreme circumstances, this Bill goes far beyond those safeguards.
Our concerns are that this Bill:
Effectively introduces abortion on demand
Removes important judicial oversight
Weakens parental and family involvement, particularly for minors
Conflicts with the values held by the majority of Zimbabweans
Opens the door to external ideological influence over national moral policy
We believe maternal health challenges can and should be addressed through:
Improved healthcare
Support for mothers
Adoption and social services
—not by ending unborn life.
We respectfully urge the President to reject this Bill or return it to Parliament for broad national consultation, including churches, traditional leaders, parents, and citizens.
Zimbabwe’s future must be built on life, responsibility, and moral leadership.
