CONTEXT MATTERS! Just because you don't have a dislike count on TikTok or instagram does not mean the same can be done to YouTube. I do not go to instagram to learn how to fix a pipe, I go to YouTube for that. I do not go to TikTok to help me learn calculus. I go to YouTube for that. Furthermore, YouTube, unlike TikTok and instagram is long. If I want to learn how to fix that pipe, I am going to spend at least 10 minutes of my time. But if the guy doesn't actually fix the damn pipe, I would have just wasted that 10 minutes and I would need to find another video that could help me. 

You see, the like and dislike count forms a ratio. It is not just there for nothing. If I want to be entertained, I want to know that the video I am watching is actually good! I refer to the dislike button for that. Not the view count. Not the like count. The dislike count is what I look at! Its not because I am a negative person, but just because a video has 156 million views and 1.5 million likes, DOES NOT MEAN ITS ACTUALLY GOOD! In fact, here is a prime example. Search for the 2018 YouTube rewind. The views are crazy, so are likes at 3 million! But guess what? Last time I checked, there were almost 20 million dislikes! And yea... it kinda sucks.

A point YouTube made about getting rid of the dislike button was that it affected the mental health of the creators. Well, to that I say, YouTube is more of a search engine for streaming relatively long content or finding important items. Almost like Netflix and Amazon. Just imagine Amazon hid all negative reviews because they said "it affects the mental health of the sellers". Youtube, I am sorry to break it to you, but you are a lot like amazon. Your videos are products, and our time is the currency we use to buy these products. If amazon had bad ratings for a product, I would not buy it! The same goes for YouTube. If YouTube had bad rating on a video, I would not watch it because I know it will be anything but useful! 

So YouTube, help us save our time. Bring back the dislike count.
