Yorkshire Has Had Enough – Demand Better from Yorkshire Water
The Issue
Communities across Yorkshire deserve a reliable water service. Yet many continue to experience burst water mains, pollution, sewer flooding and disruption. The latest burst water main in Ravensthorpe, which caused major road closures and disruption, is just one recent example.
Yorkshire Water's own annual report shows serious concerns. Customer bills have increased by 30%, while the company reported rising pollution, missed environmental projects, increased sewer flooding, declining customer satisfaction and missed targets to repair burst water mains.
The report also states that pollution incidents increased from 151 to 260 in a year, an increase of more than 70%. Yorkshire Water received an £88.8 million performance penalty from Ofwat for under delivering and is expected to receive a one star environmental performance rating from the Environment Agency. The company says much of its infrastructure is up to 150 years old and that investment over the next five years will make "a significant difference".
We call on Yorkshire Water to:
- Accelerate improvements to reduce burst water mains, pollution and sewer flooding.
- Improve communication with customers during incidents.
- Deliver the reliable service customers pay for.
- Be transparent and accountable for its performance.
Yorkshire's communities deserve better. Sign this petition to call for faster action and a more reliable water service for everyone across Yorkshire.
