Bring Back the Yolo County Fair

Bring Back the Yolo County Fair
The Issue
The Yolo County Fair is the largest and oldest free gate fair in California. The first fair was held in 1893, and it has been an annual tradition since. In its 128 year history, the fair has only been canceled seven times--from 1942-1948 due to World War II and in 2020 for COVID-19. It is the largest annual fundraiser for many community non-profit and service organizations, employs hundreds of workers and is a beloved tradition of many families in the county.
Recently, the Fair Board announced that the Fair will not be held as planned in 2021. Children are back in school, youth sports have resumed, all retail is open and indoor dining has resumed. Statewide, concerts are resuming, professional ballgames are being attended, amusement parks are opening and other counties are hosting their fairs. There seems to be no basis for canceling such an important community event. At the time of this writing, there have been 22 new cases and 1 person is hospitalized in the county. 45% of the state of California has been vaccinated.
For the good of the economy and the morale of the community, the decision to cancel must be reconsidered.
