YETI to Eliminate Plastic Packaging

The issue

Working at a small, independent shop in Western Australia, I’ve seen firsthand the massive volume of plastic waste generated from stocking YETI products. Each bottle, cup, or mug arrives individually wrapped in soft plastic, plastic that cannot be recycled through our local systems. This waste inevitably ends up in landfill, or worse, escapes into our environment where it pollutes streets, parks, bushland, waterways, and eventually the ocean.

YETI promotes itself as an environmentally conscious brand, yet this packaging practice directly contradicts that image. These plastic wraps offer minimal protective benefit but result in long-term damage to the environment. Once discarded, they break down into microplastics, infiltrating our ecosystems and threatening marine life, seabirds, and coastal habitats across Australia.

Plastic pollution is not a distant problem, it’s here, it’s growing, and it’s urgent. Australia is actively working to reduce plastic waste, with states like WA leading efforts through initiatives like the Plan for Plastics, which targets unnecessary single-use items. It’s time for brands like YETI to match the momentum of these local actions with global accountability.

We are calling on YETI to:

  1. Eliminate individual plastic wrapping from all product packaging.
  2. Transition to sustainable, recyclable, or compostable alternatives like molded paper pulp or recycled cardboard.
  3. Publicly commit to a timeline for achieving plastic-free packaging.

Change starts with consumer voices. This petition is about holding brands accountable for the environmental harm they cause and demanding real action. By signing, you're sending a message to YETI that this level of waste is unacceptable, and that customers expect more from companies that claim to care about the planet.

Let’s stand together for cleaner oceans, healthier ecosystems, and truly responsible packaging. Sign now and make your voice heard.
