𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀.

We, the undersigned devotees, citizens, and members of the Mauritian Hindu community, hereby
express our full and unwavering support to the Maasik Shivratri Utsav – West Edition,
scheduled for 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟏𝟖 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, 𝐚𝐭 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐞𝐧 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐜.

This Utsav includes the Shiv Abhishek and the Ganga Aarti, a sacred ritual that can only be
performed at the seaside, in accordance with our scriptures and long-standing cultural traditions.
This is not just another event:

➡ 𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝑑𝑢𝑡𝑦.
➡ 𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑙 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒.
➡ 𝐼𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑛 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑜𝑚.

𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐖𝐄 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐔𝐓𝐒𝐀𝐕

𝑊𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒:
✅ Maasik Shivratri is a ritual of purification, devotion, and community unity.
✅ The Ganga Aarti holds immense spiritual significance and connects Mauritians with our
ancestral roots.
✅ This Utsav has already been held peacefully in the North, East, and South — without any
disturbance or inconvenience to the public.
✅ Devotees gather in peace, discipline, and respect for the environment.
✅ It brings together youth, families, elders, and people of all backgrounds.
✅ It strengthens Mauritius’ reputation as a land of cultural harmony and devotion.

And we commit to continuing this tradition.

𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐒

Despite repeated applications and follow-ups, clearance for the West Edition has still not been
granted, while other large-scale non-religious events at the same location have already received
approval.

This raises questions of:
⚠ Equal treatment
⚠ Respect for cultural rights
⚠ Protection of religious freedom

The Hindu community and many Mauritians of all backgrounds feel hurt, ignored, and
marginalised, especially given the peaceful nature of this Utsav.

𝐖𝐄, 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒, 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐁𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄:
- We fully support the Maasik Shivratri Utsav – West Edition.
- We request that approval be granted immediately and without discrimination.
- We call for respect towards religious rites, traditions, and the spiritual identity of
Mauritians.
- We stand united with the organising associations and all devotees.
- We advocate for equal treatment of religious events, just as non-religious events are being
approved.

✊ LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD.
✊ LET OUR CULTURE BE RESPECTED.
✊ LET OUR PRAYER CONTINUE.
