Ban the trading of exotic animals in Chinese wet markets.

The Issue

It is a common misconception that all wet markets are bad. That wet markets are filthy, inhumane, slaughterhouses. When I say that this is false, please keep an open mind instead of running away from ideas that don't fit your mold. Wet markets in China have been proven to raise the nutritional average of people in their vicinity and are key to the nutrition of Chinese citizens. Most of the trading in wet markets is from fish and poultry products, like the things many people can buy at grocery stores.  Even though I acknowledge the benefits of these markets it does not make them right. While these markets are key to the function of their communities, but restrictions do need to be put in place.

Many of the zoonotic disease outbreaks associated with these markets (such as COVID-19 and SARS) started in bats and overflowed to humans via exotic animals such as civet cats and pangolins. The goal of this petition is to ban the trading of bats, civet cats, tiger, rhinoceros, pangolin, and snake products in Chinese wet markets. Some of these animals are endangered, and others are known to breed zoonotic diseases. We need to stop the trade of exotic animal species in wet markets, not ban wet markets altogether.
