Gabby, Preeti, Ava and Grace are trying to start a petition to stop the dolphin slaughter currently happening in Taiji, Japan. We are all very passionate about dolphins, and have been for a while. When we heard about these drive hunts occuring, we decided to research it further. With our research we found out that over 20,000 dolphins get brutally killed each year just to be used for their meat and entertainment. The Japanese in particular use the drive hunt method. This is when they use boats to drive all the dolphins into a cove area so they are unable to escape. Once trapped, the fishermen either kill the dolphins on the spot or keep them alive to be brought back to be sold to marine parks throughout the world. 

When dolphins are in the wild, they live to be around 40-50 years old and sometimes even up to 90. Because of the cove killings 80% of the dolphins die before they get to 20 years old. The Indus River dolphin, Hector’s Dolphin and the rough-toothed dolphin are endangered and decreasing fast. The Baji dolphin went extinct in 2006 because of these killings. 

We want to prevent any further species of dolphins going extinct because we feel they have the right to be free. Please sign this petition so it can let the government know before the damage becomes irreversible.
