Rename Ryerson Public School after Allan Hilborn

Rename Ryerson Public School after Allan Hilborn
The Issue
The Waterloo Region District School Board has identified Ryerson Public School as one of three schools in the region requiring a name change. WRDSB has put the responsibility on the school to select a new name. We are proposing that the school’s new name honour the late Allan Hilborn who was the head custodian at Ryerson Public School for decades, and an employee of WRDSB for 35 years.
Any student who went to Ryerson Public School remembers Mr. Hilborn. He was the go to man for anything and everything at the school. Wobbly chair? Call Mr. Hilborn. Broken sink? Call Mr. Hilborn. Lost your tennis ball on the roof for the fifth time this week? Call Mr. Hilborn. He was always eager to lend a hand, or tell you a funny joke as you passed his office. Mr. Hilborn truly went above and beyond to make Ryerson a safe and happy place for both students and staff members. He had the gentlest of souls and the most infectious smile. Renaming the school after Mr. Hilborn would be a wonderful tribute to his memory, and celebrate the lifelong impact he had on the students of Ryerson Public School. He was an extraordinary person and is more than deserving of this honour.
Hilborn Public School would honour Allan’s legacy of the past, while allowing the school a fresh start, reflecting the qualities and characteristics that Mr. Hilborn demonstrated every day- kind, caring, positive, passionate.
