First of all a HUGE Thank You to you for signing my petition to keep Ophelia and her cubs safe. Your heartfelt comments touched me deeply. We have now reached just over 5000 signatures and the petition is starting to have an impact!
Yesterday I had a meeting with Cheesmur Building Contractors at Ophelia's garden to discuss what can be done to keep these vulnerable foxes safe during the build. They were very sympathetic towards our concerns and agreed to the following requests I made:
- They will give me access to the site throughout the build so I can continue to monitor the foxes via my trail cameras.
- They will cordon off the back garden where the den is located, so no builders enter and no rubbish will be dumped there. This will not be a barrier for the foxes.
- Furthermore they agreed to delay the build of the extension planned for the area where Ophelia and the smallest cub Dinky lay up under the rose bushes until early August. They will also make sure that a sheltered travel route remains for the foxes from this front rose garden to the back garden.
This is progress and we have won a small victory for the foxes!
