Wet Markets Need to STOP and More Regulations Created
This petition with signatures from all over the world will help spread the importance of banning 'wet markets' that sell living fish, animals, and other perishable goods because of the little or no regulation to ensure the food is safe for human consumption. The term wet market is used to signify that a selling selling a living animal slaughters them upon customer purchase. Animals vary from wild to exotic depending on the region; bats, snakes, shark, whale, fish, chicken, goat, cats, dogs, and so many more animals are sold without food regulation. Our cause for action and change does not only effect humans but concerns the protection of animal rights.
Wet markets are common cross the world but most notably in China or Southeast Asia. Currently, it is understood that the pandemic, Coronavirus (COVID-19), originated in a wet market in Wuhan, China; the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market. The investigation into the origin of COVID-19 is still ongoing. The ban or prohibition of wet markets, no matter if they sell living or slaughtered animals, until food safety regulation is implemented and a proven safe vaccine for COVID-19 is available worldwide. Animal protection must be implemented and heavily enforced because wildlife smuggling and the slaughtering of house pets currently has a market at which these unjust acts have a benefit to those that need money.
Ultimately, wet markets are a known hotbed that cause many outbreaks of viruses throughout China and other regions. Therefore, due to the overwhelming death and virus outbreak this petition is made to help policymakers strive to uphold public safety and health. Consequently, widespread effects of the unsanitary wet markets include Xenophobia, a widespread pandemic, failing economies, animal cruelty, and mass unemployment; all of which should be preventable in the future if the problem is fixed now!
