Work with the community to deliver a greener, better East Finchley Town Square
Work with the community to deliver a greener, better East Finchley Town Square
The Issue
To: Barnet Council
We, the undersigned, call on Barnet Council to:
Work in partnership with the East Finchley Town Team, local residents, businesses and community groups to deliver a high-quality, greener Town Square on the High Road
Commit to restoring and increasing tree and planting cover, alongside improved hard landscaping to support markets, events and community use
Support the development of a funded Town Square scheme, including actively pursuing external funding sources (e.g. Mayor of London, National Lottery, corporate/community funding)
Ensure full public consultation and co-design before any permanent scheme is implemented
Recognise the Town Square as a key part of East Finchley’s identity, supporting local businesses, footfall, wellbeing and biodiversity
Why this matters:
The recent works to the East Finchley town square outside Budgens and Amys have created a more usable space for community events. However, many residents are concerned about the loss of planting, particularly given wider ambitions to increase greenery, improve biodiversity and enhance the High Road environment.
We believe East Finchley deserves a Town Square that does both:
- supports vibrant community life and local businesses
- enhances greenery, trees, shade and biodiversity
With the right partnership and funding, this space can become a flagship community-led town centre improvement.
We urge Barnet Council to commit to working with us to deliver this shared vision.
