The meeting with our MP Paul Bristow went well, he is determined to save this tree. Paul is organising a meeting with PCC to discuss the matter. I am going to speak at the meeting and bring along other local people who like me are determined to save the tree.
I have asked Paul to write to the Insurance company who have applied to the council for compensation and want the tree removed to suggest ways that the tree can remain.
Some of the comments on here are very clear and to the point. Namely that insurance companies take a premium, issue a policy and then when a claim is made their loss adjusters look for ways to get someone else to pay.
Councils are known to be an easy target, they do not like going to court and often roll over and pay out . Another fact that has come to my attention is that if a report is commissioned and the outcome is not what the insurance company want to hear, subsequent reports are commissioned until they get the outcome they want!
Nick Sandford has been a big help along with Richard Strangward and many friends and neighbours in fact finding. Publicity on "Trees of Peterborough" facebook page and much more . This tree has united the whole neighbourhood and has seen help coming from all parties it is a remarkable thing when it brings people with different political views together as one voice !
The council have told Nick that the issue is "on hold" Nick has asked for the "hold " to be at least 600 years! My fear is that PCC are waiting for the media interest to drop off and the "heat" to die down before they plan their next move....
The "Watch system" on the tree is certainly working, the other day a car with PCC signs on it parked by number 1 Ringwood (which is near the tree) They were delivering leaflets about Covid vaccinations. I had three phone calls and one elderly resident knocking on my door to inform me of the councils' presence "near our tree" this was a good test of the monitoring and shows that the neighbours are being vigilant!
I am now awaiting a email from Paul to see when the meeting is going to be with PCC and what the Insurance company have to say.
Many thanks to everyone who has signed and for all of the support but the tree isn't safe yet we must get the council to see the light grow a pair and defend our tree from the greedy insurance company. If we can set a precedent many more trees will be saved and many more councils will be saved from claims from insurance companies .
If anyone wants to help please keep this campaign alive! Continue to publicise the petition, email your local councillor, email PCC make them stand up to their claim that they are "Building the environmental capital of the fens" For which they got a huge grant from the lottery fund ! I am sure that money wasn't meant to be spent on chainsaws!
Please keep the signatures and the comments coming, see the facebook page Trees of Peterborough we only have one chance to save this tree!
Richard.
