This petition is deeply personal, as it stems from witnessing the devastating health impacts women endure when denied access to abortion care. Every day, women are suffering physically and emotionally due to this denial. It is a matter of life and death - in fact, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), unsafe abortions cause 13% of maternal deaths globally. 22 million women, 1 in 3, now live in a state that denies abortion care or severely limits access to care. Women have had to be airlifted out of their state to another state to have life-saving abortion care. Women who need an abortion and cannot have one may bleed to death, contract illness, such as sepsis. People die from sepsis as it shuts down internal organs. Other women may lose their uterus and may never have the ability to carry a child again. 

Women's right to choose what happens with their bodies should not be a political bargaining chip. It is a fundamental human right that needs protection and support from our politicians. The Guttmacher Institute reports that in countries where abortion is illegal or highly restricted, women still have abortions but at significant risk to their health.

On June 24, 2024, women in all 50 states will be gathering at their respective Capitol buildings to show support for each other. We will start at 10:00 a.m. MST, 12:00 p.m. EST. 

We call on our politicians not just passively acknowledge this issue but actively uphold and protect women's rights. We demand legislation that ensures safe access to abortion care for all women who need it without fear of legal repercussions or societal stigma.
